MANOR "SOLAR DO JAMBEIRO"

Built in 1872 by the Portuguese Bento Joaquim Alves Pereira, who never lived there though. In 1892 it was sold to the Danish diplomat Georg Christian Bartholdy after being used as a residence by the doctor Julio de Magalhães Calvet and the painter Antônio Parreiras. According to a technical description by SPHAN, the two-story house has its façade completely covered with Portuguese tiles and edges formed by big glazed tiles. At the center of the main façade on the ground floor is a balcony portico made with moulded wire and lambrequins documenting the presence of Industrial Revolution elements. Over the central void is a tablet with the date of 1872 drawn on tiles. The glass made windows and the internal shutters have glass made transoms with cup drawings from which delicate curved lines emerge. According to same technician, the tiles of this building represent one of the most important collections of 19th century tiles in Brazil.

The pink saloon (salão Rosa), with its ceiling representing the seasons of the year, is considered one of the most beautiful ones inside private properties in Brazil.
