With approximately 2,700 meters of extension, it means "fish drying" or "fish to dry". Piratininga is divided into two beaches. The biggest one - named big beach ("praião"), with small waves, light sand and clear waters - offers sea food and delicacy specialized kiosks. As a contrast, the other one named small beach ("prainha") - with the famous rock Pedra da Baleia - on the Northern extreme for being calm it is the refuge for hundreds of Niterói and Rio de Janeiro residents on weekends. Between one beach and a shallow lagoon, this gorgeous retreat is a very beautiful residential neighborhood.
